  • House Finch (female)

    http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/House_Finch/id

    Despoiler

    Before the squirrel,

    pulled by the scent

    of nut and berry suet,

    you flew onto

    wrought iron perch and

    devoured a mid-day buffet.

    Before the baffle

    thundered downward

    to freshly cut fescue,

    dismantled by pesky rodent,

    the scene was serene.

    Now replaced by squeaks

    of squirrel and friend

    and greedy gobbles

    the tasty morsels disappear.

    Your heavenly banquet

    depleted.

  • beautiful photo and poem. (B)

  • Hey this is cool and the picture so darling

  • She is so alert and observant! Too bad those pesky squirrels get into everything – I’ve not seen a truly squirrel resistant bird feeder. Some are more difficult than others but they all can be reached by the persistent rodents. It always amazes me that an animal that can’t figure out that cars are dangerous can thwart the most devious designs to prevent squirrels from getting the bird food!

  • Perky little bird. Great photo. All bird feeders are basically squirrel buffets.

  • I want to get a bird feeder!

  • Awesome photo! I suppose you must have trouble with squirrels trying to eat that smorgasbord. It looks amazing.

  • Beautiful finch and great poem!
How early does the finch have to get up to beat the squirrels to breakfast!?
    Darn pesky squirrels!!!
    HUGS!!!

  • yes, they have to fight for their food and not just from bigger and more aggressive birds.

  • Howdy, my old pal!!! I wish I knew what was really going on with Xanga. I certainly don’t want to get rid of my blog!

  • Good to see your comment.  Xanga is leaving July 15 and many are moving to wordpress.  Do download your archives.  If you never set up an archive, have Xanga do that for you and then download.  Hope all is well with you. @parkinn -
