Notes from a trip in Europe, Lucerne
A scene from along the Reuss River in Lucerne which is situated along the river and connects with Lake Lucerne in Switzerland.
Interestingly, while eating my morning breakfast I read this column in the local paper.

The author’s view (he must have been visiting Europe about the same time as I) states exactly what I thought about the walkers and bikers crowding the streets of Lucerne. Much of the city is car-free!
The photos is taken with and i-phone using an app, consequently the small landscape shot (even though I posted it as large). I did not expect to find Xanga still open when I returned but am glad that it is although apparently not getting much traffic.
PS — I will be back to catch up on reading recent posts as soon as I catch up on my sleep.

I wondered where you were off to! How fun and exciting. I hope there are more photos to come. So many of Europe’s cities are so old that the streets will not accommodate the automobile. I think that makes walking and biking much more attractive!
well, I noticed you have been gone but I had no idea. my car is a Buick Lucerne-looks like a small limo-I bought it with some of my retirement money.
Just gorgeous. I will be there in 2 weeks. Yay
How wonderful! I hope you will share more photos from your trip! That way I can take a trip vicariously through you! I missed you, your poems, and your photos whilst you were off having fun! HUGS!!!
What are your plans for your trip. I might be able to give you a tip or two. Have any questions? We stayed at the Astoria Hotel that has a good location but some complained about the band music from Penthouse parties upstairs on the top floor. Also no wash clothes or body/hand lotion. If you go up into the Alps, which I advise, wear sun screen lotion. @venice -
Good to be back but as you might notice from this post at 5 AM, it is taking me a couple of days to adjust to the time change. @adamswomanback -
My photos did not turn out so hot but I will find a few to post anyway. We took a Rhine River cruise. @murisopsis -
I saw few Buicks during this trip that I can remember. Cars are generally small and drivers training is extensive in some countries especially Germany.@Texasjillcarmel -
@vexations - I would have gone small but I don’t like those huge SUVs that get behind me -it’s not fare-fair.if everybody drove with little Fiat and Mini coopers it would be great and have a separate road for 18wheelers and trucks.
Beautiful! I love the waterways of Europe, I was in The Hague and in Bruges , I was not to Switzerland, it is on my bucket list.Looking forwrd to more pix.
@vexations - Yes – going to the alps – thanks re sunscreen tip. What is the weather like at the moment? We are staying with my nephew so no hassles re accommodation. Is there anything that is a must see or do?
Weather last Sat. and Sun was rain on Sat and Sunny Sunday. If you go up on Titlis or Pilatus you will want a sweater as temp. is around 2 degrees lower every 1000 feet elevation. A lake cruise is very nice if you have a clear day. I am sure your relative will give you other advice about museums and such. Do fondue Good train service. Expensive! @venice -
@vexations - Thank you so much
. Am definitely looking forward to going.
WOW…..hadn’t seen this one! So beautiful.
The pic almost looks as if there is a bend in the river where you stood while doing the panoramic pic. Still quite lovely there. I’ve only been to Paris as a wee lad but do remember some of the wonderful scenes. I really want to go back there with my hubby and friends some day.
