  • Purple Columbine

This perennial is new to our plots.  It is native and rather hardy.

    Purple* grows

    on me

    Each new day

My other columbine are more of a reddish-pink with early blossoms that are now fading for this season.

  • Love that color and the delicacy of the flower’s shape.  I have one like that blooming now, only in lavendar and white.

  • Wow that’s such a deep purple :O reminds of the intensity of colors in a flower we call “pensamiento”…I don’t think I’ve seen something like this down here, we have a similar shaped flower but it’s bright orange with a yellow core but the texture of the petals seems different, I loved this one :)

    Thanks for sharing!

  • I love that flower! How are ya, Bill?

  • The first Columbine my mother had did not last long at all. But subsequent tries have flourished. This year she has one with at least a dozen blooms on it; never seen one so full. That is also coral pink.

  • I understand that they last about 3 or 4 years, but if you don’t deadhead them they will seed for the next year.  My pink ones are all over the yard.  I am trying this purple as a new variety.

  • I hear that they are promiscuous and will produce new and interesting colors in the future.  That has not happened with mine but I am hoping for some cross breeding next year.  @Ampbreia -

  • Doing well, just back from a fairly short bike ride.  Glad to see you back here.  How are things?  Will check out your blog to see what new you might have posted. @BoulderChristina -

  • No wonder purple used to be the color of royalty.

  • Gorgeous! My mother (Gma_joyce)  just posted photos of hers. She has lots of varieties of columbine.

  • What a stunning flower photo! Such a deep rich purple color!
    HUGS!!!
