Whitetop is the head of the Virginia Creeper a rail to trail bike trail near Abington, Virginia. It is a great ride for families because it is downhill for miles (nearly thirty miles if I remember correctly. Shorter rides are available too.)A view from the bike trail of workers pruning your future Christmas tree.

Let me give you a pointer, if you don’t already know it. When you post a picture of any size to xanga it “optimizes” the image and gives it a new name – then links to the original photo. In the case of one of your pictures today the optimized version that displays is: http://i.xanga.com/vexations/t/whitetop2.JPG. Notice the extra “/t” in the address? If you take out that extra “/t” out of the code (first clicking on the html view) the original picture will display instead of the optimized one (which is usually not as clear, especially if you make it larger than they intended.) Perhaps you already know that, but your original pictures are so much nicer than the one they display and I wasn’t sure you ever noticed why.
Have a great Sunday
Downhill!! Sounds like my kind of ride. Put your feet up and let ‘er roll! That is, it is a good ride if you can have someone pick you up at the bottom!
Hope that the bike seats are not those horrible, uncomfortable, “banana seats” that would make even a downhill ride awful for me….lol
I can’t wait to see your pictures this upcoming fall season– oh the colors!
RE: Christmas Trees– I’m looking forward to getting a live Christmas Tree this year. Usually, we have a fake tree (I’m allergic to pines), but since this is our last year in our house, I really want to do Christmas *right* this year. At first, I wanted to cut our own tree (at a tree farm), but hubby pooh-poohed the idea– didn’t want to kill a tree. So, we will be choosing a tree from a lot… kinda like rescuing a kitten from the animal shelter, right? LOL.
There’s something about photos of hard labor in fields that gets to me… See a man hard at work and so many stories come to mind about why he isn’t behind an executive’s desk on Wall Street. It’s crazy to think about. Forgive me for my ramblings. I liked the pictures a lot… Maybe too much, eh?

I wish I could still ride my bike; that looks beautiful!
It reminds me of home… I mean my old home, the last one – well, my parents home none the less… One time we planted 300lime trees in two days… We already have over three hundred pecan trees and like fruit orchards… But back to the point… I like it. Cos it seems so familiar.. though it’s not really. BTW have you ever just rolled down a hill?? We used to do that at High school – we were soo weird then…
I love the photo’s! It looks like a very nice place to be. Nice and relaxing… No, I don’t make up those funny holidays. There are actually a couple of sites that I get the information from. SOme of them are very interesting… aren’t they!
I want a Christmas tree farm of my own.
We have been over White Top in the late 70′s. I loved it.
I bet that was fun! Healthy too!
