  • Buddha has a Church!

While walking through a park in Chinatown I saw this building across the street so I took a photo.  I was surprised to learn that Buddha has a church because I thought Buddhist had temples.  Click here for information about this church. http://www.bucsf.com/

Had I been alone instead of with a group I would have visited the inside or taken a tour of the building.  If any of you know the difference in a Buddhist church and a temple please comment. Budda'sChurch

  • I always imagined temples to have rows columns and churches have bell towers. I never really though much about there being a real difference though.

  • Interesting. I like learning new things, so I look forward to returning and finding out what others have to reply about this topic.
Then again, perhaps its just a difference like when one says po-tay-to and one says po-tah-to. I think when it comes to religion, the shape or title of the building is not really the important part; it’s what goes on inside: inside the buidling and inside the people who attend.

  • I’ve only heard that Buddists have temples. So this is new to me. Thanks for the link…I’m gonna’ go check it out.
It would be cool to take a tour of it and ask questions.
    HUGS!!! :-)

  • I believed too Buddists had temples .
Perhaps this word church applied to the Buddists is is a local and recent foudation???

  • did your team win this weekend?

  • Hi there. I always thought they had temples, too. Maybe they’re trying to appeal to Christians?!

  • Sounds like Buddhist’s conforming to local culture. :-) Some people will accept church more easily than temple, although I don’t know why, because even Christian scriptures always speak of the ‘temple of God’.

  • I saw this post, and googled it. I believe normally there are only temples, but that this is a way of informing people about Buddhism. They only meet once a month on a Sunday for giving lectures; they also have tours, etc. Their website had a history of it, and other interesting things. Here is the link to the site: http://www.bucsf.com/
