Up-date: Driving a Cross in a Pick-up for Christ to all 50 states. Is that dedication?

I don't know why I didn't google "His Call" when I first posted this. http://www.hiscall888.com
There is a link detailing the journey this man has set for himself. I do admire this man's dedication.
I was not able to determine if he is disabled, nor is that really important except that I did say it was
a rather "lame" approach to a pilgrimage (see below). I guess a pilgrimage can take many forms and it
is not for me to judge. If you want to find out more about this "cross in a pick-up ministry" hit the link
and you can be informed.
I captured this picture today while driving the streets of knoxville.
It appears this pick-up is going to 50 states carrying a cross. The truck, as you can see,
has a Virginia plate "His Call" and the label One True Story -- JESUS. Now I have heard of
the Peace Pilgrim. http://www.peacepilgrim.org/ who WALKED to promote peace. I have heard
of others who walk pulling or bearing a cross as a pilgrimage to Christ across California. http://www.walkthecross.com/
but driving a pick-up with a cross in the back seems a bit lame to me. What about you? Do you think this
shows any real dedication? I don't. I mean, come on, driving a pick-up for Christ? Not sure that is much of
a pilgrimage. What do you think? Do you admire the dedication of a person who drives a pick-up with a cross to all 50 states?

"A lot of christians wear crosses around their necks, do you think when jesus comes back he ever wants to see a fucking cross?"
- Bill Hicks
"It's like going up to Jackie Onassis wearing a rifle pendant".This is another part that I think is additive. @agnophilo -
if somebody gave me gas money, i'd drive a uhaul for hare krishna to all 50 states. (admittedly, i've been dipping in the wine box, but isn't it going to be pretty hard to drive to a couple of them?)
@vexations - I was gonna post the video which is infinitely better but I couldn't find a clip with just that bit : (
What is his purpose? If he strikes up a conversation with people about something he believes, is it lame? What he sees as a personal journey, a personal calling, do we call it lame because it isn't what we would do? Yes, personally, I think walking across the country, meeting people and depending on their kindness to help you along would be the better trip. And then there is the thought that his idea of Jesus isn't my idea of Jesus. Oh, well. If he's a man with a mission, maybe he will learn as much as the people he meets. That's my hope.
a bit of a lazy pilgrimage but I guess it'd have his challenges too...people comes from Mexico to Esquipulas walking as pilgrimage down here, long distance :O
Lame or tacky? Maybe a little of both?
You do have a good take on this. At least it is more positive than mine. I am sure there is more to the story than meets the eye. Although what meets the eye is in my opinion pretty darn gaudy. The poor fellow could be disabled vet, or some other accident survivor. I was quick to judge from what I saw, but what I saw was not, in my opinion, flattering to Christ. Thanks, I need to remember. judge not. @songoftheheart -
I agree... live right where you are!
I've seen someone come through our town with a cross over his shoulder but two little wheels on the bottom of the cross and it seemed like cheating to me.
Also we saw in the spring a fellow dressed in white sheets on a donkey-ass. He was going down Main street that gets a litlte hairy in our town, too.
hmm religious fanatics always amaze me on how they feel like they have to do stuff like this. I went to christian school and during social studies we were forced to hand out Bible tracks in the neighborhood door to door. WEIRDNESS! They taught us if we as Christians didn't do this we could slip into Gods judgement and hell. I had a traumatic childhood with Hell dreams all the time because of that school. I never understood why we try and push the issue so much. Sharing is one thing but invading personal space is another. I find that this isn't a bad thing to do but just weird. I can think of so many things he could to to make a real impact to his faith. Seems like to me it is an all consuming waste of time to point to themselves on how selflessness & dedicated they are for their belief. I do Believe Jesus said something about praying in public to look good.
@jillcarmel - LOL He was cheating!
@Ikwa - lol I thought you were talking about my blog today cause that would go perfectly with it,too. lol
@jillcarmel - well let me see then/ :)
interesting. the comments, too ;) i found a book about the Peace Pilgrim, and read. it was actually really interesting, to me. to depend on Spirit so much that every drop of food, water, clothing, shelter, was given day by day. whether i agree with the beliefs is almost beside the point. what a warrior, to LIVE what she believed. how many people, in this country, do you or know, that would, or even could do this?
She was an amazing person. @Bels_Kaylar -
He did. And also praying in private. @Ikwa -
I think he has a grand idea and the whole idea is great we all witness our faith in some way I am pretty quiet about mine I don't witness in an over the top way but I think this is a wonderfully fun way to do it
Well, whether or not I would personally do something like this or think it's lame, it DOES seem to me that he's managed to spark a conversation among people he's never met. If he's able to do so on Xanga, a website which he may know absolutely nothing about, then he is bringing awareness by simply driving around. Truth is, we have no idea how many other conversations might be taking place because of this truck.
If you click on the link you will see he posts a budget of expenses each month. @LadyofWaters -
