Patches along the Road

 IMG_9811

Patches along the Road

Auburn hair,
like the colors flashing before him
on the drive along Hwy 261.

He thinks of her when he travels.

Roan Mountain fades
as he steadies his wheel
along the white hyphens.

He remembers her when he travels.

Their daughter has auburn hair
like the dark patterns sunlight
accents among the autumn display.

He dwells on her and their daughter.

Rear view mirror reflects his creased forehead
like his mother grew from all her worries.
Travel grants him time —

time to think of them.

“Mistakes were made.”
A cop-out rests in that thought:
he made mistakes.

He broods when he travels.

Great day for a restful photograph.

I loved "white hyphens."

Driving is indeed a time when I like to contemplate.

travailing ?   beautiful piece Bill   your photo looks like my "honey hole" where i onced fished almost every weekend on the Maury River    how peaceful just nature    i always used my travel time to process  i once had a lot of it     i used a dictaphone & made a series of  I 81  tapes  that too is a time when we can be alone with our thoughts    i hope i can make it to my sanctuary on the mountain this weekend  seems each & every tree i can see in my area is doing its own thing  some are green some  barren   some just beginning to turn   it is so different than my picKs of this time last year    blessings beck

Inspiring poetry and photography, as always. This reminds me of someone. Perhaps I will write about him.

Enjoyed pictures and poetry so much.  I miss getting to visit your place often.  Maybe I will get a computer soon.  The library restricts use of social networks...sigh.

I like the recurring thought that he remembers her, thinks of her, when he travels....

Beautiful. And I can SEE that auburn hair.
